Divergent by Veronica Roth
"Divergent," by Veronica Roth is a story told in a future Chicago where a war has separated the United States. The story is told through Beatrice Prior's point of view. At the age of 16, people choose what faction they will live in for the rest of their lives, Abnegation is where people who are kind and helpful go, Dauntless is where the people who are daring and are willing to be the army and police of the five factions, Candor is for intensely truthful people, Amity is for peace and for farmers, Erudite is for those who purely love knowledge. They have to take a test to help them choose but they don't have to choose the one they're matched to but it helps them. Beatrice was born into abnegation, but never really fit in. When it was her time to take the test she was divergent. Divergents are looked down upon because society now believes that they need one and one only mindset, the government usually kills those who are matched with that. Knowing this she chooses Dauntless and then learns that was a mistake. Being trained to be Dauntless she fights a lot with the leader and trainer but the other one, Four seems to like her. Beatrice is put down and made fun of because she is a "stiff," which is what people from abnegation are called. Erudite creates a serum to control all dauntless minds to make them kill the Abnegation people, but It doesn't work on Divergents and that is where we finally confirm that Four is a divergent. He and Tris, (Beatrice, she changed her name) work together with Tris's brother, Caleb who's in Erudite to take down the program and then are left factionless.
Beatrice is a girl who they call "divergent"meaning different from others .She thinks different, for example when she had to take the test the administrator was surprised on how she answered to the actions, one of the question was that she had to choose a bread or a knife for something that was coming up and she did not choose any so then a dog appears and she didn't know what to do but she remember that if you have anger the dog would notice ,so she was calm and the dog did not do anything. The administrator was shocked because Beatrice didn't use any material against or with the animal.
Later on the book she showed some feelings for a guy. Also later on the book she took a risk. For example she jumped off the train to a building, that was part of test to get into the new faction, she had to take risks.

Essay on Banning Books
By: Abimael Juarez
Wow! Banning books is a
serious topic but not banning Ballad by Maggie Stiefvater is not good. I
believe that if a book has some mature or should not be read by kids should be
banned because it can influence them to the same things as the characters.
The book Ballad by
Maggie Stiefvater is about James Morgan the main character that likes music, he
also likes this faerie and he would save her life or is it. James friend is
experiencing a world of imagination "Welcome to the world of beer, my
friend."(153) This quote is saying and showing that James is influencing
his friend to drink. This is showing us that James is not a good friend and
that he wants his friend to get drunk and drink so much. This might influence other
kids to drink or the same with their own friends. “This was Hell. Hell was
waiting for her to scream….”(321) This quote said by James is saying some dark
themes for some kids that are really young. The quote is descriptive when he
says “…Hell was waiting for her scream…” and its showing that someone is
burning or going through very harsh moments. I believe that this book should be
challenge and read by eleven or twelve.
In the article Darkness
Too Visible by Meghan Cox Gurdon, is showing me that a women in the bookstore
was looking for a book for her 13 year old daughter that was homecoming. Amy
Freeman left with her hands empty because all the books the she found her about
vampires, suicide, and dark
stuff. This is telling me that almost all the books that teenagers are reading
are about dark themes and not happy and enjoyable themes. In the article it
also shows that many books have very dark themes and that children from 12 to
18 are reading, and it also shows that is more common than ever before.
“Reading about homicide
doesn’t turn a man into a murderer…cheating on exams won’t make a kid break the
honor code.” You might say it doesn’t but it might make the kid cheat on exams
because the book influences you and teaches you how to cheat and explain to you
why is good. Kids these days cheat on everything and where do they learn and
get information on how to cheat? The books the authors are showing them how and
it will influence many kids. Now, books can tell you many things from homicide to
doing in drugs, and I guaranteed you that the books influences that kids because
the kids are curious and want to experience what the character of the books is
feeling and kid might feel great about it.
I believe that many
books should be challenge because of many reasons. The book Ballad should be
challenged to because of a little dark themes, alcohol, and bad language. I also
think that some authors should stop making too many dark themes and should make
enjoyable and happy themes.

My Favorite Book
When I was a little kid I didn't really have a favorite/book that I loved because I didn't really read when I was young. When I was around 12 I did have a really amazing book that I loved and it was Captain underpants. I loved the book because it was short, it had pictures and it was funny. I love Hero's but Captain Underpants was a Captain that I will never forget! The book was so amazing also because a hero had their underpants outside instead of the inside.

Into The Wild By Jon Krakauer
In this book by Jon Krakauer, the main character caught my attention because he is very different then any other character in another book. Chris McCandless the main character goes in to the wilderness by him self with no resources he is lonely and sometimes ungrateful.
Back then when he was in a University and when he graduated from the University, he told his parents that he wanted to go away for the the summer.Chris was a guy that didn't want gifts form his parent or any other stuff from his parents. He though that his parents wanted to have his loyalty or his respect.Chris had A's in his report and he he about 25000 dollars left but he gave it to charity OXFAM America that stop the hunger .He like her sister better, he felt very close to her, so he told every thing to her and she felt the same way.He was in a family of eight counting him.
Chris left with his car and took his road to explore what he wanted to explore. He headed west now he packed up all his stuff and he left but his parent didn't know. Now he is going to Alaska. He had no money some food and other things. He went into the wild with a lot of snow and some resources on him and in land where he was going to be in Alaska.
For now in conclusion he is a men living in the wild,he is ungrateful with his dad and mom but very happy and close to his sister. Also he is a men that doesn't want anything form the family but he would be able to survive with his new life style but did he survive in Alaska?

This summer I read an awesome book. The book I read this summer was "Diary of a Wimpy Kid;The Third Wheel" by Jeff Kinney.
In the book, Greg the main character is experiencing some problems in his social life. The begging of the book he talks about how he loved it when he wasn't born yet, and also how it was bad at the same time. For example, he didn't have homework or school and that he just asked for food. He also didn't like it because he had to listen to her moms and dads conversations, when his parents kissed, and also boring stories that later became some what important. He talks about his childhood when he was born and it didn't go good for him. For example, he had to get pass downs from his older brother Rodrick.
He is in middle school now. Greg is preparing for Valentines day dance. He asked this girl out to the valentine day dance and her name was Abigail. Abigail said yes because her boyfriend/dance partner didn't have time and had to go somewhere else. It's valentines day, Greg is ready to go pick up Abigail with his best friend Rowley and the driver "guy" was Rowley's dad. Finally after sometime Abigail was ready.
They all arrived at the school for the dance. Greg was sort of nervous and the girl didn't really pay attention to Greg. Everything was going great when the boyfriend of Abigail showed up to the Valentines Dance and Abigail cried so much. Greg barley did anything because Abigail's friend where cheering her up. The dance went great but then it went bad because the Senior Center Meeting ,so they had to split the gym in half and the people had to turn on the lights for the senior people to see. The Seniors then claim that the music was to loud.
The night of the dance didn't go to well for Greg, Rowley an Abigail became better with each other and so Greg had to be like the third wheel.
